Learing to snowbord at Rusutsu Resort in Hokkaido

This winter we decided to go to somewhere new in Hokkaido. The Westin Rusutsu Resort was a perfect hotel for a family with young kids like us! There are two main hotels in Rutsutu resort, one is "The Westin Rusutsu Resort" and the other is "Rusutu Resort Hotel and Convention". The bus from the airport takes about 2 hours.
Both hotels have easy access to snow mountains. From The Westin there is a pair lift which connects to East Mt. (868m). From there you can connect to Mt. Isola (994m). From Highland Lodge at The Rusutsu Resort there is East No.1 Gondola which connects to Mt. East and West Gondola to West Mt. (715m).

Both hotels are connected with monorail which runs between 7:00 to 23:00. We can also walk between the resorts which takes about 10 minutes with my snow gear. There is a convenience store in between the hotels if you want to get more varieties of snacks/drinks. Both hotels have souvenir shops/smaller convenience stores.

Child care facility "Daniel House"
Located in Highland Lodge 3F (up the stairs from the 2F) at Rusutu Resort Hotel and Convention. If you are staying at The Westin, take the monorail and get off at Highland lodge station.
When we stayed in Feb, there were around 4 kids everyday and about 3 caretakers. My kids enjoyed it very much. My younger baby is shy but surprised to see that she went inside happily without cry on the 3rd day.

Kids Snow Park "Crayon Shinchan Park"
Located at Rusutu Resort Hotel and Convention. We went there in the afternoon and there were only two families. Therefore there were no cue for the magic carpet. My 3 years old son loved the snow strider! The hill is divided into 4 - Ski/Snow board, Snow strider, Toboggan and Snow Tubing so safer for the little kids.

My 2 years old didn't enjoy the toboggan or the tubing so we decided to go inside and ride carousel! The entrance fee for the snow park is 1,200yen for 3years old+ which means adult also need to pay. I though it was little bit expensive as my 3 years old won't stay there for more than 1h. However this is the only place where we have access to the magic carpet so that we don't need to carry our son and his snow board/snow strider up the hill for 20 times... my son really enjoyed snow strider there!

Ski School
Indoor ski area is nice for those who are not used to with the snow. Outdoor ski lesson was also fun for the kids. My son really enjoyed both indoor and outdoor lesson.
2h lesson is 8,500yen, 4h lesson is 13,500 yen. Private lesson is also available. English speaking instructors were available when we were there.

Restaurants
Both hotels have good varieties of restaurants but more restaurants available at Rusutsu Resort side. For lunch we ate at "Horn"everyday as it is very close to the kids day care. Japanese noodles, curry, chips were my kids favorite! For dinner, October Fest buffet (at North Wing) was very popular, kids friendly as well. However we liked Costa Terrazza (Italian) and Belle Vue (Farm Restaurant) more. Both restaurants were kids friendly too. Belle Vue had a live music which my kids enjoyed a lot. They played lots of Japanese cartoon songs for us.
For breakfast we ate at Atrium (at The Westin) but if it's busy, there is another restaurant which serves the same dishes just next to the locker room.

We bought a package which includes breakfast and dinner. We were worried we have to eat same buffet dinner everyday but we were able to visit different restaurant everyday and enjoyed different kinds of food!

Hotel Room at The Westin
We stayed at duplex room (maybe all rooms are duplex!?) The top floor has a bed room and the bottom floor has 2 foldable beds, living area, small kitchen and bathroom. I was bit worried about the stairs but my little one managed well. If you don't need some of the cleaning service, the hotel will give you about 2,000 yen worth of vouchers everyday. We used the vouchers for snowmobile ride! Kids enjoyed a lot and we were being Eco-friendly. Win-win! I was very impressed with this service.
